Since 1972, Metropolis, Illinois has been the designated Home of Superman, and is an ongoing destination for Superman and DC fans.
Visit during the annual Superman Celebration & Convention with celebrity guests, Q&A discussion panels, puppetry workshops and others classes in the arts, live music, food vendors, and more. Check out this year’s events schedule on the website.
Once you land in Metropolis, make a beeline for the massive Superman statue on Market Street and snap a selfie, then find a smaller one of Lois Lane a few blocks down.
Other Superman attractions include the Super Museum and the Superman Stuff Store.
Aside from Superman nostalgia, Metropolis is known to be a center for archery, fishing, wildlife and game. While you are visiting, check out the Kincaid Mounds Historic Site, Illinois’ first state park called Fort Massac State Park with Civil War reenactments, the Mermet Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area, and the ASA Archery Championships, or grab a pizza at the Super City Bar & Grill before sampling all the prize-winning beers at the Super City Brewfest.
